Pushing Up the Sky
A Mother's Story
By Terra Trevor

Pushing Up the Sky
By Terra Trevor
Korean American Adoptee Adoptive Family Network, 2006, ISBN: 0-9776046-0-8,
230 pages, $25.95

This powerful journey through life is elegantly unfolded by author Terra Trevor. Weaving her personal story through adoption, parenting, death, grief and living, Trevor gives readers a glimpse into her soul. This memoir is a powerful view of life as an adoptive parent as she struggles to parent a Korean adoptee from infancy and another from age 10, as well as her biological daughter.

She takes readers with her as she struggles to make the right decisions for her children to keep them culturally connected to their birth country. Those decisions led Trevor to seek  involvement in the Korean community, make connections with other adoptive families and travel several times to Korea to connect her children physically to their homeland.

At moments, Trevor’s story brought to life by her exceptional writing left me with tears pouring down my face. I could share her heartache and felt the tendrils of joy spring to life as she began her healing journey. She has weaved together a magical memoir that keeps readers turning pages.

I would recommend this book to adoptive parents who enjoy sharing the adoptive parent experience with others. This book also is a great story about life, love and grief that anyone would enjoy. Trevor has a beautiful voice and shares her experiences openly in this memoir.
